Chinese scientists have cured a patient from diabetes for the first time in history

Chinese scientists were the first in history to cure diabetes through stem cell transplantation. The results of their research were published in the journal Cell Discovery .

According to available information, we are talking about a 59-year-old man who had type 2 diabetes for 25 years. Due to the disease, he lost almost all the cells in his pancreas that produce insulin. In addition, the patient needed several injections of insulin per day.

To treat the man, the science grew pancreatic cells from stem cells in the laboratory, and then transplanted them into the patient's body. The operation was successful, and over time, the patient's body began to produce insulin independently.

Transplantation was carried out in 2021. The patient stopped taking insulin externally, and after a year he completely stopped taking other medications.

According to specialists, this is a great breakthrough in regenerative medicine, because no person has been able to completely cure diabetes so far. It was only possible to maintain the blood sugar level with the help of a strict diet and exercise.

Scientists note that more research is needed to confirm the results. They also specify that this method is unlikely to be useful for the treatment of type 1 diabetes due to the heavy burden on the pancreas.
