The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved the draft law on mobilization in the first reading

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the government's bill on mobilization in the first reading.

At the end of January, the Cabinet of Ministers presented the updated version of the draft law on mobilization to the Parliament. The government of Ukraine withdrew the previous version presented at the end of December 2023 due to criticism of the draft law in the parliament and society. The revised bill provides for exemption from military service for persons with disabilities of any group.

The updated draft law proposes to introduce impact measures against people who avoid military conscription. These measures can be implemented by a court decision. In the draft law on mobilization, it is the initiative of the Cabinet of Ministers to accept in public service only those persons who have basic combined military training or have merit. This does not apply to persons declared unfit for military service.
