Restraint, defensive readiness - for some, these words from the German chancellor will be foreign. Words that we haven't used in Germany for so long, we've almost forgotten them. But these words include an important task: together with our allies, we must be strong so that no one dares to attack us. This is how we will ensure our security and protect peace in Europe.

The best guarantee for this remains NATO on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. This is another reason why we are strengthening our armed forces and the defense of Europe. This is our contribution to a strong NATO. It is no secret that for many years the German armed forces received less attention. It ended with the beginning of the new century. This year, for the first time in decades, Germany will spend two percent of its economic turnover on defense, and we will continue to do so in the coming years and decades. Without security, there is nothing, neither freedom, democracy, nor human rights," said Olaf Scholz.
