Viktor Orbán - The EU is moving more and more in an imperialist direction

According to the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, Hungary offered a compromise proposal to the European Union to finance Ukraine, although this proposal was not perceived positively.

The Prime Minister of Hungary speaks about this in an interview with the French publication Le Point .

Orbán notes that Hungary's position regarding the war in Ukraine has not changed and believes that there is no military solution, a ceasefire and negotiations are necessary. However, according to him, the position of other EU member states is focused on a military solution, and they recommend that the EU give Ukraine 50 billion euros over the next four years.

"Hungary, as a sovereign state, opposes this amendment in the budget, although 26 countries do not accept this right of an independent country. That is why they are trying to convince Hungary, put pressure on it, blackmail it and force its support," Viktor Orbán said.

According to Orbán, Hungary's compromise proposal implies that Hungary will agree to the issue of financing if there is a guarantee that the member states will decide unanimously every year whether to continue the financing or not.

"If someone is being forced to be a part of something they don't like, they should have the right not to participate, but they're being pressured to participate. Then it is fair and reasonable to have the opportunity to decide every year whether this will continue or not," said Viktor Orbán.

According to Orbán, in recent years, the European Union is moving more and more in an imperialist direction, and if the member states cannot agree on such issues as war, migration, gender, they immediately experience an imperialist response from Brussels and become the object of blackmail.

According to Viktor Orbán, if Hungary behaves as a sovereign state, they will impose a huge financial blockade on Hungary and connect the Ukrainian issue with the rule of law, when the two have nothing in common.

According to Orbán, it is not known what will happen in the next three to four months in Ukraine, even more so it is impossible to know what will happen in the next four years, and it is also impossible to know whether "America will continue to participate in this game" after the 2024 presidential election.

It is not clear to the Prime Minister of Hungary why the European Union should give 50 billion euros to Ukraine and it should be decided now, while there are elections in the European Parliament in five months.

The Prime Minister of Hungary claims that the rapprochement or accession of Ukraine to the European Union "may have a catastrophic effect on the European economy, especially in the agricultural sector."

Orbán believes that Hungary suffers from the influence of Ukraine's economy because it is its neighbor. "Ukrainian agricultural products are much cheaper than French or Hungarian products. "The European Commission must protect the interests of European farmers," Viktor Orban said.
